Over the last months the bean yield has been measured at the fields of 34 farmers in Gitega, Kayanza and Karusi. The goal of the measurements was to study the impact of the AgriCoach on bean production, as part of the AgriCoach evaluation. All the fields were measured twice: first while the bean plots were still green, and later when the plants and beans were fully dried. The Key Activator and Super Activators measured parameters like plant height, number of pods, and bean weight.
The results showed that AgriCoach users had doubled their bean yield: on average their dry bean weight was 227% compared to the control group. The great increase in yield can be explained by the use of good agricultural practices by farmers which are taught by the AgriCoach. The evaluation study also includes farmer interviews and G50 group visits, and the results will be published in the report later this year.
